Minerva was settled in 1800, largely by families from Vermont, including the family of Ebenezer West, a Revolutionary War soldier and the town’s founder. Named after the Roman goddess associated with wisdom, strategy, crafts and battle, the Town of Minerva was officially established in 1817, and experienced growth during the mining boom following World War II.
