Gore Mountain

When it comes to ski resorts in the Adirondacks, Whiteface Mountain is perhaps the most notable, having hosted the 1980 Winter Olympics. However, it’s another mountain to the south that is the preferred choice for dedicated skiers and snowboarders.

Located in North Creek, NY, Gore Mountain is the largest ski resort in New York State, and it is widely celebrated for its terrain variety, excellent glade riding, and smaller crowds – not to mention fall and summer hiking trails, scenic gondola rides, and downhill mountain biking.

Gore Mountain in Winter

Covering nearly 440 acres and featuring a 2,537-foot vertical drop across four peaks, Gore Mountain offers 109 trails of varying difficulty, plenty of glades, a sweet terrain park, and 14 lifts, including an 8-passenger gondola. You’ll also find a ski bowl and 4k Nordic center, indoor/outdoor ice skating, snowshoeing and twilight skiing, as well as ski lessons, rentals, tuning and repair services, and five on-mountain dining options.

Gore Mountain in Summer & Fall

From the beginning of July through mid-October, enjoy scenic skyrides in the gondola and explore over 14 miles of hiking trails, ranging from moderate strolls through the hardwoods to challenging peak-to-peak quests. Downhill mountain bikers can load their bikes onto the lift for a challenging 1,700-foot vertical descent, and disc golfers can play a round on the Airbender Woods 9-basket course. You’ll also find meals, snacks and drinks at the Open Pit Grille, as well as outdoor essentials, gifts and souvenirs in the retail shop.

About the Surrounding Area

While Whiteface is located close to the bustling Olympic Village of Lake Placid, Gore Mountain is surrounded by smaller, yet charming Adirondack towns, such as North Creek, Johnsburg, North River, Chestertown and Wevertown. The most populated and amenity-rich community near Gore Mountain is the hamlet of Schroon Lake. Located approximately 30 minutes from the ski resort, Schroon Lake offers summer visitors a beautiful public beach, dock, and water activities.
