After a long, gray winter, spring is a much-anticipated time of year in the Adirondacks. Warmer, sunnier days give way to melting snow and ice, perfect for whitewater rafting on the Hudson, Moose and Sacandaga Rivers. Anglers pack up their ice fishing gear in favor of the overflowing streams, lakes and rivers, and the forests come alive with budding trees, wildlife and the return of migrating birds. Although the winter thaw can make for muddy trail conditions, hikers and mountain bikers eagerly await their return to the woods, and spring events and festivals draw the last hold-outs out of hibernation.
